My story

 

Dear Friends

I’ve always thought about running a marathon and was fortunate to get a place in the London Marathon ballot for 2009. I decided to use this, my first marathon, to help raise money for a small charity that’s very close to my heart, the British Urological Foundation (BUF). Despite some injury problems I managed to get around in 4hrs 47minutes - very relieved!!

The inspiration for supporting the BUF comes from a close friend who’s suffered from polycystic kidney failure; my wonderful father, who had a very narrow escape from prostate cancer; and two close friends in their 30s who’ve recently recovered from testicular cancer. The BUF funds basic research into urological diseases (urology deals with the diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract in both sexes and male reproductive system) and runs training for medical professionals in urology (www.buf.org.uk/index.html).
