I am planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro starting on Saturday 11th July 2009. Kilimanjaro is a hard climb taking six days to reach the summit and rising to extreme altitude of 5,896m. I will be taking the Rongai route.
I would like to raise funds that will benefit the local people of Tanzania and have chosen to support the charity "Friends of KCMC". KCMC is a medical centre based in the foothills of Kilimanjaro. It provides essential healthcare to a substantial number of referred patients from this region of Tanzania, as well as providing training for medical students.
KCMC is always in need of funds to maintain medical facilities, to attract and develop skilled resources, and to secure its future. I have been in contact with the Trustees of the charity, and direct with KCMC, and the funds raised here will likely support the purchase of critical medical equipment used in eye surgery.
