Thanks for visiting this page and a quick note to help you understand why I am taking part in the gruelling 520km 3 day cycle race from London to Paris and wish to raise money for the Perthes Association.

My elder son, Ben (pictured when he was 4), suffered grade 4 perthes in his right hip. He was diagnosed aged 3 when he began to limp. He spent 8 weeks in a broom stick cast and was not allowed to take part in any impact activity for 4 years, a desperate time for a boy who was just developing a passion for all things sport. During that time we struggled to get a wheel chair that Ben could operate and meant that he was comfortable. I modified the wheel chair in the picture so that Ben was comfortable but it was too heavy for him to move himself.

Fortunately Ben has made a great recovery and now plays all sports, but there are lots of children suffering from the disease and it would be great to help them with a wheel chair properly designed for the circumstances.

The Perthes Association is a tremendous help and support for the children and their families and now that Ben has recovered it is our turn to help them. So I'll put in the hard miles to Paris if you help raise some money. Thank you again.

Good luck. I hope you have a comfortable seat. Donation by John Isachsen on 16/06/09
