Story

Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page! Please read on. . .

As you know, I'm doing a MASSIVE one-day bike ride in June - 350 miles with mountains all in a 24-hour period. A ride like this doesn't just happen, and I've had to make a huge effort to become strong enough to even consider this challenge.

So, why am I doing this? I want to raise money for the Cred Foundation.  An organisation which I am a trustee of.

CRED partners with groundbreaking international organisations that are providing a direct and effective answer to human poverty & environmental damage. They are all run by local people, and since CRED has meaningful relationships with each of them CRED can guarantee that any donated funds go directly to those who need it.

To tell you more about the great work Cred is involved in here are some extracts from the Cred website which illustrate the projects we work with...

"Amy sat down after her first evening working in the slums of Addis Ababa.  With tears in her 17-year old eyes she stated to all who listened that “this day has changed me forever”.  Within 4 months she was standing in front of 100 dignitaries at the House of Lords, Westminster, telling her story of one week working in Ethiopia with the CRED Foundation.  Within 10 months she was back in Africa again working with children living with HIV/AIDS."

Women at Risk (WAR)

Rehabilitation & employment package for female sex workers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Boasting an impressive 94% success rate, WAR has also been replicated in other cities in Ethiopia.  A 12-month programme gives women the opportunity for counselling & therapeutic intervention, but also equips them with practical skills so that they can set up their own businesses or gain employment

The Sahara Centre

Drugs rehabilitation & health programmes running in various cities in India.  Describing themselves as a 'therapeutic transitional community', they currently operate 36 projects in 5 cities across India and serve approximately 300,000 people a year!  Their approach, based on treating people with essential dignity and respect, has seen remarkable results and has attracted international attention and acclaim.
