Dear Friend, When Elaine lost her Mum, we lost a dear friend as well. Eileen was a warm, bubbly individual, whose catch prase was, "If you can't do a good turn, never do a bad one." In the end, however, we lost her to Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's is a form of dementia that takes away your dignity and there are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK. This will rise to over 1 million people by 2025. Indeed, one in three older people will end their lives with a form of dementia. We can, however, all do something to help improve the quality of life for those who suffer and to support the Alzheimer's Society team that is working to make a difference. Alzheimer's Society
ÿ Gives quality care ÿ Provides information and supports people with all forms of dementia ÿ Funds research into the cause, care, and cure of dementia ÿ Advises professionals working in the field of dementia ÿ Campaigns for improved health and social care and greater understanding Simon, our eldest son, persuaded me that, to remember Nanny Eileen, we should get ourselves over to the Emerald Isle, the land of Shamrock, Lepricorns and Guiness, and just run 26.2 miles around Dublin's fair city, where girls are so pretty... to encourage you to help make that difference. We'll be running ...through streets broad and narrow, crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"! So, please dig deep and sponsor our attempt online. How our sponsorship could be spent:
ü £100 allows eight calls to be answered and information sent to people in need of advice ü £500 pays for 65 hours of a support worker’s care time ü £1,000 gives respite breaks for two people with dementia, taking pressure off their carer ü £2,000 enables the Society to purchase equipment for important research Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
We are paying our own way, so every penny you give will go directly to the Alzheimer's Society.
So please sponsor us now! Many thanks for your support.
With love and peace, Simon & Brian Simon Walker RSN and Dr Brian Walker
