My story

Thank you so much for visiting our fundraising page.

On the 7th & 8th September, 7 SimplyBiz employees completed the extreme physical challenge of 24 Peaks in 24 hours. This national charity event was organised by the ‘Mitchemp Trust’ (www.mitchemptrust.org), a charity that works to give underpriviledged children the better quality of life they deserve. Each team taking part had to raise a minimum of £5000 in order to complete the challenge, the SimplyBiz team managed to raise a total £6000, this went towards the grand total that the event raised of £110,000.

The challenge was an extreme endurance event, this was made even more extreme due to the bad weather. The team set off at 3am on the Saturday morning in the dark, driving rain and gale force winds and as we climbed the wind worsened and the rain turned to hail. One walker described walking in these conditions as ‘being dragged behind a gritting lorry on full blast at 40mph!’ In fact after seven hours of walking the organisers pulled all the teams off the mountains as it had become dangerous.

After the torment of the day, Saturday night was the most testing part of the challenge as all of the team were emotionally drained from clinging onto rocks for dear life as gusts of winds up to 80mph threatened to blow them off the peaks. But through the strength of the team together they managed to pull ourselves around and 6 walkers were at the start ready to walk at 4am on the Sunday morning.

13.05 hours later the team ran / staggered the last 100metres to the finish line amidst cheers and champagne having completed the second day successfully.

The weather conditions were unfortunate in that none of the teams were able to complete the 24 peaks, but because of the weather the challenge changed, especially on the Saturday as all the walkers were hanging on for dear life! The team walked a total of 17 peaks and came back with a massive sense of achievement not just the personal achievement but also having raised so much for charity.

The Charity they have pledged their sponsorship to is The Mitchemp Trust, a non government funded charity that is dedicated to supporting the lives of underpriviledged children in this country. The charity helps children from all different sorts of backgrounds, many of them referred from Social Services; but the one thing they have in common is their low self esteem. Statistics and past experience say that children from as young as 11 years old are more susceptible to choosing the wrong paths in life.

The Mitchemp Trust runs camps in the great outdoors for these children in order for them to develop skills such as leadership, teamwork and pushing themselves physically which in turn increases their confidence and gives them a new approach to life and their futures. Not to mention all the new friends they make and the fun and games every child should enjoy.

In essence the Mitchemp Trust gives the children who need it most the ability to live their lives to its full potential and gives them confidence to smile and be happy - something to which every individual has a right.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Mitchemp Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
