So what is a Tandem Sky-Dive?

Basically its where an experienced Sky-Diving instructor will be strapped to your back using a dual harness system.  You will exit the aircraft between 10,000-13,000 feet (depending on weather conditions) and freefall to around 6,000 feet at speeds up to 120mph until the instructor opens the parachute.  You will then spend the next 5 minutes or so gliding slowly back down to earth.  The whole experience will last around 30minutes, 20 minutes for the aircraft to gain the correct altitude and the remaining 10 minutes for the actual jump.

When will it take place?

September 6th 2008

Where will it take place?

The jump will take place at the Wild Geese Sky-Diving Centre just outside Coleraine.

Why are we jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane?

The organiser of the event has a friend of only 34 years old with Multiple Sclerosis and at present there is no cure for his strain of MS. Currently there are only treatments used to try and slow down the very progressive symptoms of MS.  But even with these, it will only be a matter of years at the most before he will be confined to a wheelchair.

The goal of the skydive is to raise awareness along with rising some much needed funding for multiple sclerosis.  Multiple sclerosis is the most commonly diagnosed neurological condition among young adults in the and today.  The cause of multiple sclerosis remains unknown and as yet there is no cure.
