Story

On Friday 12th November I spent one night sleeping rough in order to raise funds to assist those that do this every night. It was a great night with the One Eyed Cats entertaining us and we managed to get some sleep between 1 and 6am!

Peterborough Soup Kitchen regularly feeds 850 homeless people and need support to continue this entirely voluntary activity. The aim is that 100 'rough sleepers' will help raise the money needed for a new van.

Although we all have pre-conceptions about homelessness and homeless people, a number are there through a combination of life's circumstances all colliding at once. Whilst we like to think that this is a situation that would never happen to us, many people don't have the support structures we all need and the spiral into homelessness is all too rapid.

Why Peterborough Soup Kitchen? Well firstly, they are not there to judge or pity, just help in the most practical way. Secondly, I met the organiser Carlos Dominguez on a charity bike ride to Cuba 5 years ago and am inspired by his determination to help the charity. This is why I'm supporting them.

In the past I have chosen charity events that happen to match my interests and hobbies - you can be assured that this was a 'real' challenge for me! So please dig deep and donate now.
