UPDATE:  Our exhausted but exhilarated team successfully reached the summit of Kilimanjaro at 13h35 on 24th July.  Thank you so much for your generosity; both I and the team (and of course the children) at Kids Company are exceptionally grateful.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rising 19,340 feet above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in and the world’s highest free-standing mountain.  Kilimanjaro lies 205 miles South of the equator and stands on ’s northern border with .  The structure is composed of 3 volcanoes: Kibo (19,340 feet), Mawenzi (16,896 feet), and Shira (13,000 feet).

On 17 July, along with my wife and another couple, I will endeavour to climb this beast of a mountain in order to raise money for Kids Company.  Kids Company is a charity which provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children across including the most deprived and at risk whose parents are unable to care for them due to their own practical and emotional challenges.  At a time when many charities and public services may come under intense pressure this is a cause that I am sure needs to survive and prosper.

I would be grateful if you could please dig deep and sponsor me on this challenge.  As most of you will know, I am more at home on a golf buggy than on an incline such as this and it would spur me on enormously to know that my efforts were in aid of such a good cause.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you can send either a personal or GAYE cheque to me (made payable to Kids Company) at .

If I can raise 50 pence per foot climbed (counted, of course, from sea level) it will all be worthwhile and I promise to do my very best to improve on Mr Abramovich’s efforts!
