On , the Monsoon rains caused massive flooding of thein the Indian state ofaffecting over 2.5 million people across 1600 villages. The Indian Prime Minister has declared the disaster a "national calamity," and after the worst floods the area has seen in 50 years - the people ofneed our help.
The International Association for Human Values (IAHV), in partnership with the Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) has established a disaster relief fund to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of theflood. Your contributions will be used to provide immediate material relief, trauma relief and long term rehabilitation to the survivors of the disaster.
IAHV and AOLF volunteers are already on the ground in the districts of Khagaria, Katihar, Purnia, providing materials, temporary shelter, food, medical aid and trauma relief programs to reduce people's anxiety and stress levels. Volunteers will be also reaching the worst affected districts of Arariya, Madhyapura and Supoul. AOLF and IAHV have launched massive collection drives to solicit support from all sections of society. Based on the feedback from the volunteers on the field, plastic sheets, medicines, food items, clothes, candles, boats, are being collected and sent to the affected areas. Relief material collection centres have been set up in different parts. Truckloads have already despatched truckloads of relief materials collected from different parts of . Water purifying machines which can operate without electricity or battery are also being sent from Pune. In the coming days, more relief materials accompanied by teams of volunteers will be reaching the affected areas. We are also working in conjunction with the state government ofto distribute relief materials. AOLF has already mobilized relief materials worth Rs 100 million (US$ 2.5 million) through the volunteer network throughout India. We propose to raise another Rs 400 million (US$ 10 million) for rehabilitation of the flood victims.
