Thank you for taking the time to visit this web site. In January 2006 I took the momentous decision to undertake the Inca trail to Machu Picchu in and to raise money for a very worthwhile cause:N Ireland Hospice Care. Most of us know someone who has died of a terminal illness. I believe that hospices support people to die with dignity and as little pain as possible. It is for this reason that I have chosen Northern Hospice Care to benefit from the challenge I am undertaking.
My target is to raise at least £5.000 The challenge itself takes 10 days and includes a few days to acclimatise to the high altitude that is in excess of 12,000 feet. Over the next few months I will not only be raising money but will also be raising my general level of fitness to enable me to trek up and down mountains for 6-8 hours a day. Those of you who know me well will smile when I tell you that I will be sleeping in a small dome tent for a few nights for the first time in my life. I generally like 5 star accommodation so this trek has me well out of my comfort zone.
I hope you will support me financially in this BIG CHALLENGE. By doing so you will be supporting the Hospice to continue to provide excellent care to children and adults who have life threatening illnesses and support for their families at this challenging time. Originally I was to undertake this Challenge in 2007 but I became unable to complete this due firstly to illness and secondly to the death of my beloved Bill Longridge, my former husband and best buddy who died of pulmonary fibrosis in December 2007 just as we were about to consider the need for Hospice services. I am well enough now to undertake the Challenge in May 2009 and dedicate this trek to his memory. Bill, I know you will be with me in spirit and give me a spiritual hand when the going gets tough!
With thanks
Sonia
