Following my passion for football and strong belief that football is more than just a game and can effect social change -I will be heading to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in March to spend some time volunteering with COACHING FOR HOPE.
Coaching for Hope is an NGO that organizes coaching courses where professional coaches from the UK train local youth workers, while at the same time the local coaches learn how to deliver health-HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns to young people in their communities. Program staff provide ongoing support to the graduates who in turn can deliver health awareness programs on their own. So far, about 4,000 children and over 400 coaches have been through the courses.
This organization is part of the Football for Hope movement, led by F.I.F.A. in its capacity as world football's governing body and as a driving force behind a global network of NGOs, in which football is the common denominator. These programs are aimed at children and young people, and use football as an instrument to bring together, support, advise and strengthen sustainable social and human development programs.
As funding and donations for NGO's diminishes in the face of the global economic crisis, support from individuals is now more important than ever.
