Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Southcourt Studios JustGiving page. My name's Gary Mullins, and I've been heading up the project since September 09. Many people have volunteered their services and given finance to get this project off the ground even before I came along. They include wonderful parishioners from the Church of the Guardian Angels in Southcourt, Aylesbury, right through to Thames Valley Police, and Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust (and many more besides). The purpose of the project is primarily to give young people in the area the opportunity to use professional quality music recording/making facilities where they would otherwise not have access, either because of the location or the cost. We plan to make Southcourt Studios accessible not only in location (a 10min walk from the town centre), but also financially, by offering the use of the facilities at a reduced rate. We will also function as a 'normal' recording/rehearsal facility whereby young people and adults alike can use the facilities at costs specific to their age groups. So far we've been working on getting a lot of the ground work done - creating promotional materials and liaising with schools in the area to work towards workshops and the like. There will be gigs in the main hall we have in the building, and ultimately hope to be getting these young people involved in the running of the studio - for example recording bands themselves, running their own events and doing photoshoots on the premises. We want to see young people be inspired and excited. We want to give them skills and experience, and the opportunities to meet like minded people, building community and friendships. The facilities are available to be booked by 'youth' and 'adults' with separate price schemes for both in order to make it sustainable, but we need more money to take more facilities to young people...Your money will go towards the purchase of studio equipment including amplifiers, microphones and instruments. We want to expand the services we offer including broadening access to our photography workshops. To do this we'll need to purchase cameras, lenses and software so we can get these facilities into as many creative hands as possible.Through Aylesbury Vale Youth for Christ we have a close working relationships with a number of local schools including the Aylesbury Vale Academy and Princes Risborough School, where we will soon be running workshops in sound engineering and recording techniques. This is just the start of what we hope to do. In the future we plan to expand into several sites, with a mobile unit that will be able to go to schools so the students can experience working in a recording environment. Please donate as much as you feel you can.
