This year a group of us decided to run the Southend Half Marathon (all 13.1 miles of it!) on Sunday 14 June. The group was made up of Rob Thwaites, Scott Thwaites, Pat Hambleton, Grant Rylands, Stu Clarke, Simon Armour, Dennis Doyle, Greg Carrier & Graeme McCubbin.
Well the good news is that we all successfully completed the run! It was a fantastic achievement by everyone to complete it in very respectable times and to raise so much money along the way.
The money raised is going to the Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation: The Bosom Pals Appeal.
The aim of this appeal is to raise vital funds for the Breast Cancer Unit at Southend Hospital. Specifically money raised will go towards the purchase of 2 new mammography machines in order to improve screening services which will help detect signs of cancer earlier.
As most of you will be aware, this is an appeal that means a great deal to me, my family and friends and running the half marathon as part of this team was our way of being able to contribute to the fantastic work that the team carry out at the Breast Cancer Care Unit at Southend.
Thanks so much to all of you who have donated and those of you who supported us on the day!
Take Care,
Rob Thwaites and the Half Marathon Heavyweights
