My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 19th Agust I will be swimming from Henley Bridge to Marlow Bridge on the River Thames - a distance of 14km.  Swimming is part of my DNA and I've been involved in competition and coaching for longer than I care to remember, but this event is likely to be the most challenging yet!

It's not only a personal challenge of endurance, but also an opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the Speakeasy Advice Centre in Roath, Cardiff.

Speakeasy provides free legal advice and representation for people struggling with debt, welfare benefits and fuel poverty.  Set up in 1992 it has been providing high quality, professional advice for almost 20 years.

In May 2012 their existing heating system was classified as "harmful to the environment" and will be illegal when new legislation comes into effect in 2015.  As part of their desire to minimise their impact on the environment they are aiming to replace the system by the end of 2012.

This will cost at least £7,000 in building works and consulation fees, a figure that they simply could not budget for.  My aim is to raise £5,000 through this event to ensure they can continue to provide an essential service to people across South East Wales.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

PLEASE NOTE: Speakeasy Advice Centre is part of Action in the Community Trust and was founded by Glenwood Church.  All proceeds from this event will go directly to Speakeasy Advice Centre.

So please dig deep and donate now.
