Case study: donations in action

Caroline Newcombe, desperately wanted to be part of her son’s birthday celebrations. He was about to turn 22 and his birthday was especially important to Caroline because she knew it would be the last one they would ever spend together. Sadly, she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer just weeks earlier.

When Caroline was discharged from Hospital , St Peter’s Hospice cared for her at our hospice building in Brentry. When she told us that she’d like to go home for her son’s birthday we did everything in our power to make it happen.

St Peter’s Hospice at Home nurses were there to care for her at home, and ensure she was comfortable while the family enjoyed their precious time together.

We were able to keep her free from pain and unpleasant symptoms and cared for her at night so her husband Mike could get some sleep. Caroline eventually passed away, peacefully, in Mike’s arms.
