3 peaks challenge · 27 March 2009

We are a national charity working to transform the hopes and happiness of young people facing abuse, exploitation and neglect. We support them through their most serious life challenges and we campaign tirelessly for the big social changes that will improve the lives of those who need hope most.

Story

The name “Spragg” has become synonymous with tireless, selfless charitable endeavour; a byword for generosity. The Spragg Brothers - Bob, Guy and James - are to charity work what Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras were to opera: three maestros.

Al Hendry has similarly carved out a reputation as one of the UKs most formidable fund raisers. Although an opera metaphor wouldn't work, mainly as he can't think of any other opera singers, to liken Hendry's charitable skills to those of a young Diego Maradona on the football field would be justifiable. Although the comparison must end at Maradona's football skills and not some of his less virtuous achievements.

And, once again, the big 4 are embarking on a venture to raise awareness and money for the helpless and needy. A mammoth, herculean effort to scale 3 mountains, in 3 different countries, in 24 hours.

Yes – they will be attempting to conquer the mighty “3 Peaks”, a daunting feat of mountaineering that has been described by Chris Bonnington as, “like, the only way to get a decent climbing buzz once Everest is in the bag, man.”

And, in return, in these times of hardship and austerity, they ask that you dig particularly deep – into your conscience and your bank account – and give what you can for The Children’s’ Society – to support youngsters ‘who face danger or disadvantage in their daily lives’.

It yanks at the ol’ heart strings I know. So come on, cheque book and pen, credit card, think what you can afford, double it, and donate now. And remember…it’s for the kids.
