I MADE IT ! Yippeeeeee !
When I started to run at the beginning of this year, my running shoes had spent more time behind the lawnmower than on the streets. The change in lifestyle needed to improve my fitness in readiness for this event has been huge.
Training became a regular event, the distance soon clocked up and this June I managed to overcome the first hurdle, a half marathon in under two hours.
Then in August I managed to complete a very hilly run around the old German Formula One track, the Nuerburgring. One lap was 24km but the hills and sun made it feel like much more !
The extra distance has taken its toll and my legs have ached every day, but I know in the end it will be for a good cause. It's not been nice getting up early or running in the rain, so please make a donation and make it all worthwhile.
But I can now say I made it ! On the 3rd October I completed the Cardiff Marathon in a time of 4hrs 32mins. Everything was going well until my right knee gave way after 22 miles but the thought of helping the Society kept me going to the end even if it finished as more of a hobble than a run. I couldn't walk properly for a week and as for stairs they may as well have been mountains ! It's now complete though so please don't simply exit the site, make a donation no matter how small, it will all really help. Next time you go for a drive, see how far 26 miles or 42km is - that's a marathon - it hurts (but is still fun) ! A million thanks ! Steve
