We help blind and partially sighted people to break down the barriers of sight loss

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon on 26 April 2015 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People ('RNIB').  This represents the biggest challenge of my life for me personally of which I will be pushing myself to do as well as I possibly can in the biggest event of the year.

I am running for the RNIB as they hold a place close to my heart.  My Father-in-law went blind in one eye 16 years ago due to retinal vein occlusion.  It happened overnight, there were no early warning signs - he just woke up one morning and his sight had gone completely in his right eye.  This happened as a clot got stuck in small artery in the eye, resulting in the retina being starved of blood flow and oxygen, causing it to die (the equivalent of a stroke in the eye).

At this present moment in time, my Father-in-law is currently undergoing groundbreaking glaucoma surgery to help save and preserve the sight in his only seeing eye.

The research that goes into these new procedures needs our full backing as you never know when a loved one can lose one of their 5 senses.

The RNIB gives blind and partially sighted people a quality of life that helps them to gain back their independence.

Inspired by what happened to her Father, My wife is a qualified and practising Ophthalmic nurse and helps blind and partially sighted people on a daily basis.

All donations, no matter how small will help the RNIB to continue the groundbreaking research that helps to provide blind and partially sighted people with the quality of life they deserve.
