The event
I've done it !! In fact I did it three times. First time was on the 25th August in 2hrs 57mins. Then on the actual Stelviobike day the 29th in pouring rain and huge hailstones 2hrs 54mins. Then again on the 31st on the TREK FUEL ex8 mountain bike that BEELINE BICYCLES, COWLEY ROAD, OXFORD, gave me to use, time was 3hrs27mins. Special thanks to all the guys at BEELINE for their support and kindness they continued to give in the run up to this event, I could not have done any of this without your help.
The STELVIO PASS is 15.5 miles long, and I did 46.5 miles of it in 6 days. Thanks for your support
Why am I doing this? Thanks to my family for their support and a big thank you to Haydee, Sarah, Jane and Mrs Angela Briggs and the children of Watlington Primary School for their encouragement and support. A very special thank you goes to Sophie and Ben for the use of the fabulous Citroen C4 Grand Picasso to use for the trip to Italy Always wear a cycling helmet
The Stelvio Bike Ride - the toughest and most spectacular mountain pass in Europe. Starting in Prad, Northern Italy a 27.4km long, 48 hairpin bend climb of 1,808m - at an average incline of 7.4% - to the summit at 10,000ft which spans 2 country borders!!
My dear friend and fly fishing partner, Peter Jeffrey, was admitted to ward 5b last October after suffering a stroke. I want to raise this money to thank the wonderful staff for the fantastic care they gave Peter which has helped him on his recovery and has allowed him to move onto another hospital in Oxford for ongoing treatment. More close to home, my Mother suffered a small stroke on the 29th August, but luckily she was treated without delay and is currently undergoing more tests, thanks to the F.A.S.T campaign my Dad noticed the signs and summond help. 15/8/09, Mum is now home and making good progress, thanks to the great staff at both the Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals
How will the money be used: - to buy a new Vital Signs Monitor for the Stroke Unit Ward 5B, in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. I hope that this new monitor will help others like Peter and Martin Briggs, another stroke patient who I got to know while visiting at the ward.
Please help me: Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you
