My story

UPDATE: 18 May 2011
We did it!
Jack in an brilliant time of 05:05:12 despite getting a puncture which set him back over 20 minutes.
I came home ecstatic in 05:47:20 and not a sweeper van in sight!

My cycling buddy Jack and I are doing the Caledonia Etape on 15 May. It's an 81mile road race in Perthshire http://www.etapecaledonia.co.uk/

Jack is a seasoned cyclist and has been cycling on-and-off for 30 years. Though he'll tell you he's not in peak form, he can easily manage the 13mph minimum.

I,on the other hand only started cycling in 2009 (if we forget the girlhood adventures on my Chopper bike!). I absolutely love biking now. However the minimum speed limit for the Etape is going to be a challenge for me. My objective for this event is to complete it without being 'untagged' by the sweeper van! Whatever happens I will complete the event but I'd rather do it with my tag and event numbers still on.

There are some steep hills to tackle so it's going to take all I've got to complete and maintain an average speed of 13mph.

We're out every weekend putting in serious miles to help me get up to speed. I wrote a little update recently on my Diva blog.

This event raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support please donate what you can. It will help people with cancer and encourage Jack and I to achieve our best possible times.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thanks so much

Stephanie & Jack
