10TH APRIL 2012!
Hi All Well That’s the Big Bike Challenge 2012 completed for me. Managed to finish the ride yesterday In just over 6 hours so am very pleased about that, the 80 odd miles was made no easier by the unscripted wind & rain that decided to come down but it didn’t dampen my spirit or any of the other riders who all did so well. Having never done anything like this before I am delighted to have completed the challenge and proud to have raised so much money for some fantastic causes that the saints foundation are supporting this year. Thank you to everyone that has made a donation. I would like to say That the whole event was organised and run so well by the team at the foundation there is a lot of work that goes on by people who often don’t receive the plaudits deserved but the team at the foundation are a credit to our football club and put a magnificent event on yesterday – Thank You to all involved. I would like to say a special thanks to Iain Robertson for lending me his bike to complete the challenge on, and also to my Brother (Ian), my Dad (Reg) my eldest son (Baily), Domla, and our great friend STT for coming out and supporting me as well as the other riders taking part in the event especially during the later stages, thanks so much you were a real tonic and help at the right times! And last a big thanks to Mrs C who didn’t complain once whilst I seemingly was out more than in training for this. I Have really enjoyed the whole thing relating to the Big Bike Challenge and am pleased it has raised over £20k for the foundation well done to all those involved! NOW JUST NEED TO WIN THE TITLE – COYR!
The Saints Big Bike Challenge for the 2011/12 season is on Easter Monday, 9 April 2012 departing St Marys Stadium at 6am and aiming to arrive at Selhurst Park, the home of Crystal Palace in time for the 3pm kick off! The aim is to cycle the 85 miles to London and raise funds for both the Saints Foundation and the Football League official charity partner – Help the Hospices. Funds raised will directly support the operational costs of the Saints Education Centre, set up by the Saints Foundation to improve the education of young people in Southampton through a literacy, numeracy and IT syllabus which supports the National Curriculum. Funds raised will also support local hospices; Naomi House and the Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity. From Physiotherapy and pain relief to a listening ear and home cooked meal, your local hospice does whatever it can to help seriously ill young people and adults in the local area to live well until they die. Hospice care is free for everyone who needs it, but is not free to provide. Saints Foundation Ambassador Iwan Thomas is fully behind the event; “I would recommend the Big Bike Challenge as a great way to get fit and raise funds for three worthwhile causes. I’m aware of the great work of Saints Foundation and the two local Hospices make a huge impact to people’s lives at a difficult time for those involved. Good luck to everyone who takes part and lets raise plenty of money!” Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. So please dig deep and donate now. 31st Jan 2012 1st training update!! I haven’t had an alcoholic drink since 2 Jan 12! Honestly! And I have been putting training in consistently and gradually since 4th Jan 2012 and have listed a couple of additional stats that make half interesting reading, to me at least! (this is hard btw)

For 19.32 hours
Burned 32,839 calories!
