Story

Cancer affects 1 in 3 people, just think about that for a second, how many people are in YOUR family or social group?

Yes, this is another charity challenge, but it’s one that affects YOU or someone you care about.

In June this year I will cycle from London to Paris for Leukaemia Research and in the process try and raise essential funds to enable them to continue their life saving work.

June is a significant date for me, as it will be five years since my own bone marrow transplant.  I will briefly tell my story, but I’m one of the lucky ones, so I’ll tell it not for sympathy or well wishing messages, but for YOU to realise that it can happen to anyone and without the vital funds needed for further research, many more will die.

In Oct 2008 I found a lump in my groin, I had no pain, I wasn’t ill, I felt great, just a lump.  After three months of tests I was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma/ Acute Leukaemia ( form of blood cancer ).  I was informed that I would have to start a two year treatment plan involving chemotherapy and a subsequent bone marrow transplant, for which a donor would need to be found, this treatment would start in two days.  I had two days to get my affairs in order.  When I asked the chance of survival after treatment, I was told 30% at best.  Without treatment? 0%

The care I received was second to none and I will never be able to repay the debt I owe.                       I also owe a huge amount to someone whom I may never meet, my bone marrow donor.  If you haven’t already please volunteer to be added to the register, you may never be called upon, but if you are, wouldn’t it be great to save a life?

When you donate, don’t see it as giving to yet another charity, look at it as safeguarding YOUR future and of the ones you love.

Thankyou.
