Update: On the 22nd of May 2010, Steve and Genna will be walking from Weymouth to Swanage (31 miles) as part of an ongoing mission to raise money for Childreach International.  This is our first joint sponsored event, so please sponsor us!

---------------------------------------------------

Next year, we will be attempting to trek nearly 20,000 feet to the summit of Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, to raise money for a charity called Childreach International. Providing altitude sickness doesn't prevent us from reaching Kilimanjaro's peak, the trek will take us 7 days.

Childreach International is an organisation that provides children in some of the poorest communities in the world with the resources that they need to pull themselves out of poverty and experience a better standard of living.

Childreach International's work includes:

- improving child health by providing health education in the schools of rural Nepal, where malnutrition accounts for 55% of child deaths.

- providing seed and fertiliser to schools in Ghana to enable them to grow crops to provide food and a sustainable income for the children, as well as renovating classrooms and building a playground to provide children with a safer, better equipped and more child-friendly school environment.

 - organising health camps, health awareness training and offering nutrition education for the poorest kids in rural areas of India.

- building toilet facilities in primary schools in Tanzania where only half the schools have basic sanitation and water supply, to help protect the children from diseases like cholera.

-  educating poor, urban children of India such as child labourers or victims of communal riots.

- developing the potential of vulnerable and socially excluded African children by providing training in skills such as carpentry, tailoring, IT, Maths, and Basic English, to enable them to play an active role in society.

- running care homes for sexually abused children in Nepal, providing counselling for victims and their families, raising awareness and educating the local community.

Steve will be taking part in running events, duathlons and eventually entering the world of triathlon between now and the trek, so if you'd prefer to sponsor him for doing something involving hard work, sweat and pain then there'll be plenty of opportunities.

Genna and Steve will both be taking on Snowdon and Ben Nevis in preparation for the trip.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

It’s the safest and most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now, and directly help to provide 3rd world children with some of the most basic levels of care, facilities and opportunities which we all take for granted.

Thanks from both Genna and Steve for your support. Your donation is hugely appreciated.
