Many of you know about my 2008 expedition across Baffin Island which raised £6000 for Epilepsy Action. This year I am upping the ante and attempting an unsupported expedition to the Magnetic North Pole with the hope of raising even more for this indispensable charity.

The Arctic is one of the world's most extreme environments with temperatures as low as ‑50ºC plus wind chill, and home to 80% of the world's polar bears. As part of a team of 12 I will trek 360 nautical miles (414 ‘normal’ miles) across the Arctic from Resolute Bay to the 1996 certified location of the Magnetic North Pole (it moves continually northwestward). Starting in April 2010, our expedition will take up to 30 days depending on the weather.

Being ‘unsupported’ means that our feat will be accomplished with members of the team pulling all our supplies in sledges from start to finish.

We depart the UK at the end of March 2010 and you can follow our preparations (and read about the April 2008 successfull Baffin Island Expedition) at:

About Epilepsy and Epilepsy Action

Epilepsy is a tendency to have recurrent seizures (sometimes called fits) and, using this definition, 456,000 people in the UK are currently diagnosed with this condition. Furthermore at some point in their life around one in 20 people will have a single seizure. It is estimated that, with the right treatment, 70% of people with epilepsy could be seizure free.

Epilepsy Action aims to improve the quality of life and promote the interests of people living with epilepsy. Please donate whatever you can to help them in their work.

As always, thank you for your time.

Donating through JustGiving (www.justgiving.com) enables me to raise more while saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Simple, fast and totally secure, JustGiving will never sell your details or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
