UPDATE
Well, we made it ! 1022 miles in 12 days. 12 consecutive days of hard slog mainly uphill ! Saw fantastic scenery , stayed in some great places and met some really nice people. A couple of punctures, one minor repair job on my bike (by Pete and Simon) and thankfully no accidents.
We were surprised at Lands End to find Jane and Sue (Pete's wife) waiting for us with a welcome home banner. We celebrated in Penzance with a few drinks and a curry and headed back to Maidenhead on Saturday 12th June , just in time for the first England match ! Great timing !
On the Sunday evening we had a surprise gathering of our cycle group plus friends and family at the Thames hotel and to complete the whole event, the Maidenhead Advertiser finally gave us some coverage on 24th June !
If you are just reading this for the first time and havent donated, really hope you will do so for this fantastic charity.
Thanks to everyone who has donated, together with donations taken at work as well as on JG I have raised over £1600 and Pete too has raised over £1700.
Thanks to the girls for helping with the planning and the admin (booking of our accommodation at short notice most days !) and for saving us pedalling back into Penzance !
A great experience. The map is out already for the next one !

The Original Plan
Myself and Peter O’Mahoney (from Boxer Motor Company, Maidenhead) are cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End. leaving 30 May 2010. It is around 1000 miles and we are allowing 2 weeks but we don’t plan to hang about because we have businesses to run ! We will be staying in Youth Hostels and small bed and breakfasts, using quiet roads as much as possible and hopefully see some fantastic scenery.
This is a long held ambition and hopefully it will have the additional benefit of raising a decent amount of money for the Alexander Devine Children’s Cancer Trust, started by Fiona and John Devine, who sadly lost their son Alexander, who suffered a brain tumour, at the age of just eight years old. They realised the enormous need for a hospice for children in the where around 300 children each year are diagnosed with life limiting conditions.
The charity is a local one and we can see very much, where the money is going to. The fundraisers are committed to using the maximum amount of money raised towards the charity itself and get as much as possible for free !. Also having 3 children, all thankfully healthy, we acknowledge that when the hospice is up and running properly, it will be priceless to the families who need their help.
Please help to make our efforts worthwhile, a penny a mile will be great ! Thanks….
