Sturge Weber UK inspires to promote research and share knowledge to empower individuals diagnosed with Sturge Weber Syndrome and their families and carers. Giving strength to create a supportive, inclusive and caring community whilst raising both public and professional awareness.

parents from Strawberry Patch&nbsp;Nursery&nbsp;in Hempstead Norfolk have decided to brave the cold waters at Cromer beach to do a Boxing Day Dip in aid of Sturge Weber Foundation UK a very special charity that has helped &amp; supported a very special little girl called Angelina.</span><br><br style="margin-bottom: 0px;"></span></span></div> <div style="font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;; background-color: #ffffff; font-size: medium; color: #73645d; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: &#39;times new roman&#39;, &#39;new york&#39;, times, serif;">Angelina was born with just a birthmark on her face but at the age of 4 months after&nbsp;experiencing&nbsp;a epileptic seizure tests were carried out and Angelina was diagnosed with Sturge Weber Syndrome, a rare neurological condition&nbsp;<br><span style="outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">caused by abnormal blood vessels on the surface of the brain, this usually results in frequent or prolonged seizures causing damage to the brain which can then cause a (hemiplegia), a weakness or paralysis in one side of the body,development delays causing varying severity's of learning difficulties &amp; Glaucoma.</span><br><span style="outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Medication is the first step in controlling seizures, physiotherapy may help with the weakness but in severe cases a hemispherectomy surgical procedure is offered it involves removing the part of the brain which is effected by the abnormal blood vessels this should stop any more damage effecting the good parts of the brain.</span></span></span></div> <div style="font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;; showing signs of a developmental delay.</span></span></div> <div class="data_field" style="outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; width: 350px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: &#39;times new roman&#39;, &#39;new york&#39;, times, serif;">Taking the members advice she asked for&nbsp;Angelina&nbsp;to be referred to&nbsp;a neurologist who&nbsp;specialises&nbsp;in Sturge Weber Syndrome at Great Ormond St Childrens Hospital&nbsp;further tests were carried out and&nbsp;Angelina's&nbsp;parents Lisa &amp; Stephen were advised that the only chance for&nbsp;Angelina&nbsp;to have a seizure free life and be able to develop was to have Hemispherectomy brain surgery which carried many risks and further life time complications (how does a parent make a&nbsp;decision&nbsp;like that?)</span></span></div> <div class="data_field" style="outline-width: 0px; attention &amp; is under many&nbsp;therapists, her weakness (Hemiplegia) did worsen after surgery&nbsp;something&nbsp;that her&nbsp;parents&nbsp;knew would happen, She wears a AFO splint on her left leg to help support her ankle, a Lycra Gauntlet on her left arm/hand to help give sensory stimulation, she does not use her left arm/hand at all, she has also lost her visual field on the left side in both her eyes, but her strength and determination shines through, she has learnt to walk, started to talk and for once her parents can see her learning, it is amazing how she does everything using just her right side.<br>Throughout&nbsp;angelinas journey Lisa &amp;
