Fundraising for Raleigh International Trust

In September 2015 I will volunteer for 4 months on a development programme in Nicaragua. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. I’ll be working alongside volunteers from the UK and Nicaragua, on a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) project. Here's some more details about WASH projects;
In some parts of the rural region of Nicaragua the population suffers from a lack of clean water. Project teams works in combination with a number of charity partners across Nicaragua to deliver WASH programmes into communities and schools, typically in remote rural areas where the need for these projects is greatest. Previous project teams have worked alongside the community in awareness raising sessions, covering topics such as, the right way to wash hands, brush teeth, saving, looking after and maintaining water with the aim of preventing illnesses in this generation and others in the future. Deforestation and lack of knowledge about maintaining the water resources directly affect the water table is another big problem. Raleigh's Charlie 7's project team, ran green days which we dedicated to planting marango trees in communal places such as wells and farms. They raised awareness in people about the importance of guaranteeing the maintenance of these. They managed to plant 500 marango trees which will protect, in the future, the water table. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development. I need to raise £800 for Raleigh International who is one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work
