LLR - London Bikeathon 2012 · 16 September 2012 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 16th September, I'll be taking part in the 75+ miles Box Hill Endurance Ride starting at Ham House, heading into Surrey, through Box hill, and onto Leith Hill where a challenging ascent of over 4 miles will be waiting for us... The exact route is yet to be announced.

As if that's not enough, I'll probably be doing it with my hair dyed... And then Monday is the day I get my head shaved to raise that little extra. My hair will be, well, gone... *Sobs quietly in the corner*

I'll probably put up a link to my Endomondo profile so you can track my progress on the day. Providing my battery lasts on the day.

Here's a link to a news entry about the ride:

I'll add more links if and when they appear =)

What does your money get?

£1 will pay for a patient to receive one of our patient information leaflets. This supports and reassures patients by explaining the complicated procedures and side effects of their treatment.

£50 will pay for a research nurse for one day to support patients entered into one of our ground-breaking clinical trials that deliver new treatments.

£100 will support a PhD student for one day to conduct vital research into blood cancers. PhD students are the researchers of the future and sustain the high quality research into blood cancers taking place in the UK.

£1000 will pay for sophisticated electrophoresis equipment needed to analyse important genes and proteins, helping to improve treatments and find cures for blood cancer.

£5000 will buy a piece of equipment called a PCR machine which is used to create multiple copies of a specific section of DNA. This essential machine is used in many different ways to understand the genetics behind blood cancer.

If you don't want to sponsor me using Just Giving, I've been sent a sponsorship form you can use in person :)
