Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight's only hospice and is known for innovation across the UK and beyond. We provide expert medical, nursing and domiciliary end of life care and bereavement support to people in their own homes, including care homes, in our Newport building and in the local hospital.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page:

Decisions, decisions....that is what life is all about.  Some you make are very logical, well thought through and make perfect sense to all.  Others quite simply are not!

To me, entering the 2009 Marathon Des Sables seems a logical one, well thought through and makes total sense.....you might think differently!

The Marathon Des Sables is one of the toughest endurance events there is.  Seven days in the Sahara covering 160 miles of sand, rocks, boulders and dunes in 40 degree temperatures.  All on foot.  Add to this the fact that you have to carry all your own gear right from the start and any blisters are sliced off by mad scalpel wealding French medical staff and one starts to wonder if this decision was well thought through, but hey it should be a laugh!

Along the way I want to raise some cash for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice here on the Isle of Wight.  The staff there do a fantastic job day in day out and each year help hundreds of people through the most difficult of times.  The positive and friendly way everyone goes about their tasks is an inspiration and in those deepest darkest moments in the desert I hope will drive me on also.

So, my job is to get to the finish line.  Yours is to help me on my way with a donation, enough said really.  So please dig about round the back of the sofa or car seat and see what you can throw this way.  It costs £4600 to keep the hospice running for a day.  It would be great to make that our target!

So go for it - make a logical decision - sponsor me.

Thank You and I promise to send pictures of the blisters!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Earl Mountbatten Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
