Story

The Training Officer, Instructors and Students of SMQ (south) have decided to RUN TO LONDON to tie in with the Submariners Association Memorial service on 4th November 2007, which will be held, as usual, on the embankment in London. To Find out more go to www.smqsouth.blogspot.com

As Training Officer of SMQ (south) and having recently suffered a heart attack myself, I thought it would be fitting to support a ‘Heart’ Based Charity as way of saying thank you for my rehabilitation. Also, to adhere to the Submariners Association’s policy of supporting a local children’s charity, we have decide to support the South West Children’s Heart Circle.  This is a Charity that does wonderful work for children with Cardiac problems being admitted to Bristol Children's Hospital, and covers an area all the way from Cornwall to Bristol. If you would like to know more visit www.heartcircle.org

Our Charity Event will consist of a relay run from HMS Raleigh in Cornwall via Plymouth, Exeter,Yeovil, Andover, Hounslow and on to Westminster in London. We will finish by the Submariner's Memorial on the Embankment just 200 yards from HMS President. The intention is for each participant to run 10 kilometres a day and conduct overnight fund-raising events on route. We would also like to turn this into a recruiting drive for the Submarine Service and will be working closely with the Recruiting service. The route has been finalised and if you want to meet us look on the blog page closer to Start date and we will let you know exactly where we will be at anyone time. We will also let you know where the fundraising events will be conducted so you can join us for a drink and help raise even more. So, if you support the Submarine Service or would like to support children with Heart problems, then please donate as much as you can.

SMQ SOUTH provide specialist training of the highest standards to give the submarine service a man who is Submarine aware and safe, who will be familiar with submarine routines and drills, and who will have a basic knowledge of submarine systems. To find out more about SMQ South and the Charity Run to London go to www.smqsouth.blogspot.com

A special thanks to the  Submariners Association that met in Coventry a few weeks ago and managed to raise £225 and to Southall Sea cadets who raised a magnicent £21.50 and Colchester Sea cadets who raised a very impressive £50. Also a big thanks to all in HMS Raleigh, HMNB Devonport, HMS Drake and Comdevflot for raising just under £300 from bucket collections.

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page of the submariners of SMQ south. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
