The authorities had left Amina in the reception area of their building, facing a future of sleeping rough and total destitution. The only belongings she had were the clothes on her back and her pocket Qur'an. NZF sprang into action immediately by dispatching a trusted volunteer to pick her up from the reception area and provide emergency accommodation for the night. She fondly recollects that the brother and his wife (NZF volunteers) were also kind enough to buy her a burger that evening, her first proper meal in two nights.

An NZF caseworker met Amina in the morning to help her through the situation and she cried tears of relief from the very beginning, recollecting not only her life events but also what had happened with her family. Alhamdulillah, we transferred her to one of our specialist shelters for homeless women where she is now receiving all the help and support she requires. 

Amina kept thanking every single person linked to NZF, from donors to staff, and said that when she was waiting in the reception area not knowing what would happen to her, she kept making du’a for herself and recognised that she was completely at the mercy of Allah and had absolutely no idea or control over even the next second of her life.

Alhamdulillah Amina is now in a clean, safe and secure environment and receives a basic weekly allowance from NZF for food and other essentials. Staff at the shelter are assisting her with not only spiritual and emotional support, but are also helping by liaising with solicitors to ensure that the best possible outcome for her is reached insha’Allah, especially bearing in mind her age and health.
