Help us to protect orangutans, their forests and their future.
Sumatran orangutans are critically endangered and without urgent action could be the first Great Ape species to become extinct. SOS is dedicated to turning this situation around.
We do this by:
1) Raising awareness about the importance of protecting orangutans and their rainforest home.
2) Supporting grassroots projects which empower local people to become guardians of the rainforests and restoring damaged orangutan habitat through tree planting programmes - we've already planted more than half a million trees!
3) Campaigning on issues threatening the survival of orangutans in the wild.
By making a donation or creating a fundraising page, you will be helping us to protect Sumatran orangutans, their forests and their future.
Thank you.
We are working with local communities to restore damaged orangutan habitat in the Gunung Leuser National Park, and protect the forests from further destruction. We have planted over half a million tree seedlings and we're delighted to report that wildlife is starting to return to the area! Orangutans, Sumatran elephants, long-tailed macaques, pig-tailed amacques, muntjac, leopard cats, wild pigs, porcupine, and lots of species of birds, have all been spotted. With your support, we can plant even more trees.
We also work with schools, universities, communities, businesses and government to promote the value of forests and biodiversity. So far, we have visited over 350 schools, reaching more than 15,000 students as well as running conservation camps and a scholarship programme for Indonesian students. Our OranguVans provide a mobile library and conservation cinema, inspiring people of all ages to support our projects. The fate of Sumatra's forests lie in the hands of the local people.
Help us work with the local people to protect and restore the orangutans' forest home
