4th February 2011: The Opening Ceremony was conducted by Matt Allwright, Patron of Sands and Anne Milton, MP, attended by many of our fundraisers, Surrey Sands Committee members, The Chairman & Chief Executive of the Trust, the Bereavement Midwives and other senior staff from Royal Surrey.  A fantastic culmination of nearly 3 years work.  A big THANK YOU to all involved in bringing this project to fruition.

January 2011: With building work complete, furniture delivered and blinds installed we are now putting the finishing touches in place before the OPENING CEREMONY scheduled for FRIDAY, 4TH FEBRUARY 2011.

October 2009: We've done it!!!  £40,000 raised poignantly on International Baby Loss Awareness Day 15th October 2009.  Thank you to everyone who has made this possible in such a short space of time.  Our first donation was received on 21st June 2008 making this a remarkable achievement.

Please continue to support and donate.  Royal Surrey have only recently agreed to move an existing filing room enabling us to make the bedroom area larger than originally planned.  Funds in excess of the £40,000 will therefore enable us to enhance the Forget-Me-Not Suite to this higher specification and provide additional items making the environment even better for future bereaved parents.

Any excess monies will be used to maintain the Suite going forward.

June 2008:

Royal Surrey County Hospital is dedicated to providing the best possible care for parents when their baby dies.  Although the Hospital has an existing Alice Bereavement Room it is very small and clinical.  It is also situated next to the maternity wards with all the associated noise of happier arrivals.

It is Royal Surrey’s wish to create a brand new bereavement suite to provide better facilities and enable professional, specialist support and advice to take place in a quieter, more homely space.  Surrey Sands has been working closely with Royal Surrey since June 2008 to raise the estimated £40k to achieve this aim and we are very grateful for any donation towards the project.

It is intended that the new ‘Forget-Me-Not Suite’ will provide a larger delivery room with sleeping area for both parents, an en-suite bathroom and an adjoining nurses room so that baby can remain close by.  We also hope to provide space for siblings to play which will allow precious time together as a family.

Note 1 - Royal Surrey is also raising money towards this project.  Any monies raised through the Justgiving page in excess of the amount required for the project will be donated to Surrey Sands to support other parents and hospitals within Surrey.

Note 2 - Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to donate: Sands gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.  All monies donated will go to Surrey Sands in aid of the ‘Forget-Me-Not Suite’.  The Gift Aid element will be retained by National Sands to support their work which includes research into the causes of stillbirth.
