As psychologists, we are all too familiar with the supreme importance of children's environments for their healthy development. Abuse and maltreatment can have a damaging effect on the child's emotion regulation, relationship style, behaviour and intellectual ability. The quality of these environments begins not just at birth but at conception and can have a damaging effect not only on the next generation but for  generations to come.
