UPDATE - I DID IT!
On 11th April 2009, I completed the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in Cape Town in 6 hours 52 minutes and 56 seconds. And yes, I was shattered at the end.
It was a fantastic experience and an amazing race and I was, thanks to my sponsors, able to raise an amazing amount for my two charities. Thank you all for your donations and support.
Over the months of training I swore, many times, that I would never, ever, do anything this bonkers again. As I crossed the finish line in Cape Town I thought "Hmmm, maybe just once more..."
Admit it, you thought I'd lost the last of my marbles last year when I took on London again, didn't you? Assuming, of course, that you ever thought I had any marbles to begin with.
Well, I didn't lose them then but I think I may have misplaced them this time. I have decided to take on another marathon. Not just any old marathon but an ULTRA marathon - 35 miles around Cape Town, South Africa. The Two Oceans Marathon could, potentially, contain everything I hate about running - hills, heat and ...er...heat.

Why am I doing this? I really have no idea. Perhaps it is because I am a lunatic with no sense of proportion. I can kind of justify this madness by running for charity and this year I'll be running for two (one for each Ocean).
An old but in fact tragically young (42) friend of mine died recently from cancer. This has had a terrible impact on his family and friends as he fought so hard to battle the disease. David walked the Beachy Head Marathon with me twice and, although he thought I was bonkers, always encouraged me in my escapades. So my Two Oceans adventure will be undertaken in his memory.
I thought it was about time my dedicated and superb support crew (i.e. my husband) was given the chance to choose a charity for me. Roy chose Greyhound Gap. They are a small charity who help to rescue and rehome greyhounds who find themselves on "death row" (about to be put to sleep). As owners of a rescue hound ourselves this is a charity close to our hearts. David was a great dog lover and adored my greyhound Gordon, so I know he would approve of this charity.
I also asked David's two young sons to choose a charity for me to run for. They have chosen Cancer Research, in memory of their Dad and to help research into combating this terrible disease. You can visit my Cancer Research page here:

Please, please dig deep for both of these worthwhile charities and help me raise as much money as possible. You never know, there could be a bottle of bubbly in it for you!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Greyhound Gap gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Thanks for indulging me in my madness yet again. One day I'll stop. Maybe.
Susan
