Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I have never run a marathon before and so I have taken up the challenge to run the New York Marathon on 1st November this year and I thought that it would be great to raise money for a very worthwhile cause - Brain Tumour UK.

At the age of 2, my son Lee developed a malignant brain tumour for which he had several operations, radiology and chemotherapy over a period of a year. Whilst there have been a number of side effects that have impaired his growth and general development, the cancer did not re-occur and despite his difficulties, he has grown into a fine young man with a wicked sense of fun and with such an acute ability to moan that he now answers to the name Vic after that arch moaner Victor Meldrew!

Lee has been lucky unlike so many people that develop brain tumours and do not survive. I am lucky to still have my son with me and I am keen to promote Brain Tumour UK, a charity dedicated to the awareness of and research into this rare form of cancer and the support of those affected by it.

Lee is a special boy and very precious to his family and friends.  Through the first class treatment he received at Edinburgh Western Infirmary and Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh he is here to tell the tale. I'd like to help others have the best of treatment possible and that is why I am supporting Brain Tumour UK in the New York Marathon.

I will do my very best and if you can help me raise some monies, we will in turn both be helping a very worthwhile cause. Lee and my husband Bill will be in New York to support me. You can support me from this side of the pond through Justgiving which is a great and cost effective way to donate. Of course if this is not possible, then I will of course be happy to accept cash sponsorship and donations and if this is not possible, I hope that after reading this you are now more aware of the good work of Brain Tumour UK and that you may feel able to support it in the future.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Brain Tumour UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me for Brain Tumour UK!
