About The Sussex Beacon
The Sussex Beacon was opened in November 1992. Since then it has cared for more than 800 individuals, and the service has developed from palliative care to supporting men and women living with HIV/AIDS.
The Sussex Beacon is situated in north Brighton, set on a hill with views of the South Downs and its own private gardens. Facilities include 10 beds in their own rooms, each with en-suite facilities.
There is a 3 day a week Day Care, which clients can come and receive support to maintain and improve their well-being. Complimentary Therapy sessions ranging from Reflexology, massage and Shiatsu are available to all clients whether Day Care or Residential.
The Sussex Beacon future is meeting the challenge of increased infections, dealing with the effects of long term combination therapy, and the reduction of funding of HIV/AIDS services.
Fundraising Events feature the annual Garden Gadabout in July; local gardens open together with the Beacon gardens offering gardening advice and cream teas, amongst other things.
Each February The Sussex Beacon Half Marathon runs the length of the Brighton-Hove seafront and along to Rottingdean and back – the event attracts some 1,700 - 2,000 competitors.
