Keen Quad riders, THE SWAMP MONSTERS Dean Gillings, Alex Rousell and Carl French, were devastated to learn that fellow SWAMP MONSTER and good friend Richard Burch (The FLY) had been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. Despite various gruelling treatments, sadly The Fly’s cancer is terminal. Whilst this came as a total bolt from the blue he has kept cheerful and is still riding his quad whenever he can and even riding his ridiculously large motorbike!
There are no words to describe how fellow Swamp Monsters feel about Richard’s condition, so when they heard about the John 'O' Groats To Lands End Charity ride on a Quad event it seemed to be the perfect event for them to endure….. and to raise money for the Cancer Research
charity.
Dean and Alex have bravely volunteered to ride their Quads for the 800+ miles. Actually Alex will be using The Flys mean machine as it road legal – Thanks mate!
Carl has been roped in to act as ‘wing’ man for the event. He will be driving the support vehicle kindly loaned by Flamingbox Limited as well as taking over from Alex or Dean in the event of arse fatigue.
Frankly the Swamp Monsters should know better – to start with they are too old to be in a gang and, at least in Dean’s case, not fit enough to do this!
So in summary, over 4 days the guys will be quad biking the 800+ miles from John o’Groats to Lands End. They will be on the road (which is a new experience on quads, not very comfortable for them). The route avoids motorways so hopefully they will enjoy all the gorgeous scenery (yeah right!).
See below for the route information. Dean’s got instructions to make sure they take plenty of photographs as these should be worth money after the event!
The guys will be stopping in b&bs along the route which will mean sometimes sharing a bathroom, and for those of you who know Dean, know that will be harder than the journey itself!
Daily emails will be sent (technology permitting) with their progress and stories for people who are interested, whether you decide to give to the charity or not.
Now on to the subject of sponsorship – The guys need to raise as much money as possible for the charity and also need money to fund the trip (fuel & accommodation) so if you can help with either please let us know.
Right that’s enough from us. If you want to know more email dean.gillings@flamingbox.com or call him on 07767 205777.
Thanks, and give what you can.
All the best,
Dean, Alex and Carl.
