On Sunday November 30th 2008 a group of us walked 26 miles, from Salisbury to Winchester along the Clarendon Way, raising money for the Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group.

We left Salisbury at 8.15am (first light), and arrived at our destination in Winchester at 17.15 (in the pitch black) - thus we walked for 9 hours straight. The conditions were challenging - it was a very cold, wet day - but our spirits were high and we made it to Broughton by 12.15, in perfect time to hook up with our 10 mile walkers, from whence we all continued together into Winchester. The going was tough - it was very muddy underfoot and the light was fading rapidly - but we all made it, despite various injuries picked up along the way. We were honoured to be joined (for the last 10 miles) by SWVG client Appolinaire Bolaki and his stepdaughter Crystal, both from the DRC. Their resounding good humour and sheer pace put many of us more 'proven' walkers to shame!

We urge you to commemorate this dogged & drowned rat-esque achievement by posthumously sponsoring either one or all of us together. Now we've actually done it and our muscles lie in ruins, we are collectively keener than ever to exhort you to dig deep, dig shallow, we don't mind, so long as you send a little of your hard-earned money in our direction. We want it to have been worth the effort. At the time of writing, we're still a thousand pounds short of our target of £5,000, so please please please click on the SPONSOR ME NOW link right above this text, and help us to reach this impressive target.

SWVG (www.swvg-refugees.org.uk) is a small registered charity which gives personal, practical and financial support to asylum seekers, especially those made destitute by government policy.
