Sytner Coventry Ride with pride
Fundraising for Cancer Research UK
Story
We as a dealership have been committed to raising money for charity ever since the Sytner group has taken over BMW and MINI in Coventry, but this challenge will prove to be our biggest achievement to date. We aim to achieve members of staff bike riding 40 miles and raise £10,000 in doing so.
Following recent comment’s about the fitness, tight shorts and red faces of some of the staff at Sytner Coventry we have decided to sort the men from the boys (girls too…) by having a charity bike ride. We have had a great take up of staff and everyone has got into the spirit of it.
Ride with Pride will take place on the 28th June 2009. We will set off from the dealership on the Holyhead rd at about 9.30am together and head towards Stivichall across to Hunningham, Long Ichington, Broadwell, Draycote, Bilton, Long Lawford, Church Lawford, Bretford, Binley and then back across Coventry to finish back at the dealership for about 3.30pm.
The reason we have chosen Cancer Research UK is because all of us have been affected by cancer, whether it be a friend, partner or someone in our family. Here are some facts from Jan West from Cancer Research:
* One female a day is diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Warwickshire. We are the largest funders into this Research, spending 45 million pounds.
* Oncologists use our Research to advise Cancer patients on the best treatment. Funding 30 new clinical trials in Coventry/Warwickshire to find new and better treatments.
* We fund £8.8m in to research at Birmingham/Warwick Universities which result in curing local people.
* Looking for treatments and ways to control over 200 different forms of cancer.
* £330m was spent last year on Research - 4,500 researchers and information /clinical trial nurses funded at 35 centres.
* 81p in every £1 is spent directly on this.
* Local cancer survivors alive today because of drugs we have designed e.g. Tamoxifen, Temodal, Epiribucin, Telomerase, Abiraterone, Cisplatin, Carboplatin.
