If it weren't for the skill and dedication of the staff at King's, my 2 year-old daughter, Tara Huckle, would not be alive today. A scan on the 6th of August 2009 showed that she was suffering from a tennis ball sized tumour that was preventing her draining brain fluid properly and putting her in grave danger. As a result, she was rushed to King's needing a 12 hour operation to save her life. Thankfully the procedure was successful; if you saw how well Tara looks now, a few months after her ordeal, you would not believe what she has been through!
The love and care of the staff at King's was a guiding light for the family during a very difficult time. My way of saying thank-you is to raise money through a series of challenges. This challenge is a sponsored trek to the Everest Base Camp on the 13 November 2010 - 01 December 2010. The route goes via the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar through beautiful valleys, dense forests and across glacial rivers before reaching the renowned viewpoint of Kalapatar, on the approach to Everest Base Camp, to see the highest mountain on the planet. The money raised will help fund the medical services offered at King's so that other families, when faced with similar difficult circumstances, have the benefit of the amazing care and support offered by the hospital.
