If it weren't for the skill and dedication of the staff at King's, my 4-year old daughter, Tara Huckle, would not be alive today. A scan on the 6th of August 2009 showed that she was suffering from a tennis ball sized tumour that was preventing her draining brain fluid properly and putting her in grave danger. As a result, she was rushed to King's needing a 12 hour operation to save her life.

A couple of years on and Tara is now really well. Unfortunately there is a little bit of tumour left and this has started to grow again, so she needs another operation (on the 9th Jaunary, 2012).  So once again she will be requiring the skill and dedication of the surgeons, nurses and doctors at King's.

My way of saying thank-you is to raise money through a series of challenges. After completing one of the iconic cycle challenges in the UK - Lands End to John O'Groats - this challenge is an equally mammoth cycle - this time from London to Nice, passing through The Alps en-route. The money raised will help fund the medical services offered at King's so that other families, when faced with similar difficult circumstances, have the benefit of the amazing care and support offered by the hospital.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving– they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Dig deep and donate now so that more gravely ill children also have a bright future, just like Tara.

*A small proportion of the money raised will go toward the cost of the challenge itself.
