WE DID IT!!!
Between the 4th and 7th September 2009 the 6 of us completed our cycle challenge from London to Paris all in aid of Richard House, London's first childrens hospice based in East London. http://www.richardhouse.org.uk/.
We cycled just over 300k in 3 days:
Day 1: We set off from Bexley in Kent bright and early at 7am. Once out of the town we were faced with RELENTLESS hills and 'A' roads on route to Dover and were filled with relief when we saw the white cliffs and the sea! After the ferry crossing and a rather smelly coach journey (everyone was taking off their shoes!) we ended up at our hotel in Dieppe.
Day 2: We left Dieppe at around 10am and spent the day cycling through gorgeous farms, fields and practically deserted French villages. The roads in France are much more cycle friendly than in England!
Day 3: Spirits were high-ish (slightly marred by hangover) until we stepped out into the freezing morning mist at 7am! After what seemed like an age the sun finally started doing its business and we settled into the longest ride of the trip. The road into Paris was gridlocked and there was very nearly a road rage incident but we eventually made it to a champagne greeting at the Eiffell Tower!
It was an extremely challenging 3 days (mentally and physically!) but also very rewarding.
We are yet to reach our fundraising total so if anyone wants to make a donation please do. With our money, Richard House can fund a Palliative and Care nurse for 2 months!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure and is the most efficient way to sponsor us: Richard House gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
