A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDING PARENTS
It was in May1968, 40 years ago, that we sat at the bedside of our beloved son, Kenneth, who had been seriously injured in a road traffic accident. During our vigil a young Priest, Simon Stephens, came and prayed for Kenneth and a boy called Billy Henderson who had cancer. Until that time we had never heard of theHendersonfamily, but that prayer and the coming together of the families following the loss of our children led to the formation of The Compassionate Friends (TCF) in January 1969.
Forty years later TCF has spread throughout the U.K and abroad helping thousands of bereaved families to rebuild their lives and enabling them to smile again. Yet the task of supporting parents in these troubled times gets harder. We urgently need your help to enable that work to continue and expand.
At present we are working with friends on the TCF 2009 Gathering Committee, which is likely to be the last major contribution to TCF we and some of our friends make. It is therefore appropriate that we appeal for others to come forward to donate and become involved with TCF as volunteers, particularly those of you who have derived benefit from TCF services.
“Your donations can make a vital difference. Please help”.
Yours in compassion
