Dear Sir/Madam,
This September we will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for THE QUEEN ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL HOME and TEAM WILLPOWER.
TEAM WILLPOWER was set up by the Tetley family to provide support for their son, Will Tetley, whose story is one of remarkable recovery from a near fatal cycling accident in July 2004. Following the accident Will remained in a coma for several weeks, and was still critical for weeks after this.
Will was 18 years old when the accident happened and now, although still severely handicapped, is showing remarkable willpower to recover, hence 'Team Willpower.'
Since 2004, TEAM WILLPOWER has grown and the money from its fundraising now goes to the particular rehab centre/hospital that Will is living in at that time, providing funds for new equipment, expeditions, carers and more. However small or large, these funds can often change people’s lives.
Will receives constant care at THE QUEEN ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL HOME in the Acquired Brain Injury Unit. The hospital provides nursing and rehabilitation care in a comfortable, professional setting, with an aim to enable residents to live as independently and actively as possible in an environment that they can think of as their home. Many of the residents are ex-Servicemen and women, but not exclusively. Such dedicated and incredible care is expensive so we need your support. Please help us by sponsoring our climb up Mt Kilimanjaro this September.
Mt Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest freestanding mountain, Africa's highest mountain and one of the 'seven summits'. It is 16,890 feet or 5895 meters high! So high that almost every climate type on earth is represented! We will trek up the 'Machame' route, which was the first man made route up the mountain and remains one of the most challenging. It will be both physically and mentally demanding. Our target time from base camp to summit is seven days.
