We - Jim Farara and Rob Houdijk - will participate in the 2012 Absa Cape Epic (an 8 day, 780km Mountain Bike stage race through the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa http://www.cape-epic.com/) and have undertaken to raise funds for the sporting programs facilitated by The Kusasa Project.

 

We strongly believe that sport plays a significant role in the holistic development of children, has an important role to play in the promotion of healthier life styles and social unity and that sport gives under privileged children a chance to escape from their day to day living conditions and aspire to a better future.

 

Through the Kusasa project we are looking to support the following initiatives for underprivileged kids: 

 

·         Soccer: practises & matches involving up to 150 children

Costs: transport, food and resources

·         Running: training and running events

Costs: transport, food and drink, sponsored T shirts.

Costs: support of local boy Ayanda Matshini, who competes in national events

·         Cricket: training & matches (young children playing 6 a side cricket)

Costs: food and transport

·         Rugby, Netball and Volleyball: training & matches

Costs: transport and purchase of equipment

 

The Kusasa Project runs numerous programs to enhance the future of underprivileged children in the winelands region of the Western Cape.  When combined, these diverse programs powerfully impact the futures of the young children and sport, in combination with education, is one of their most critical initiatives.
