My story

**********************************************

WE DID IT!

WE ARE NOW ALL BACK FROM NEW YORK AND WE SEEM TO HAVE ALL RECOVERED FROM RUNNING 26.2MILES!

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT. SHELTER ARE REALLY PLEASED WITH OUR FUNDRAISING!

IF YOUR WOULD STILL LIKE TO DONATE ITS NOT TOO LATE! YOU CAN HELP SHELTER HELP MANY OVER THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD! ********************************************** Please support Team Countryside as we prepare to run 26.2 miles around New York City on November 6th 2005 to raise money for Shelter. We have now been training for the New York marathon for a couple of months and it's going well, but we are all first time marathon runners! We have set up this website to be easy to use and you can quickly and safely sponsor us online. We have been extremely impressed with the amount of support offered so far. We have also been lucky enough to receive advice from seasoned marathon runners at every level and particularly appreciated the champagne fuelled training advice of our MD to run during our lunch hour with bricks on our backs! Now we are rich in marathon knowledge and it's your financial support we need. SO WHY DO WE WANT TO RUN THE NEW YORK MARATHON?! Bad housing robs us of security, health, and a fair chance in life. Today, one million children in Britain are suffering in bad housing and need our support. Shelter does a huge amount to help the homeless and badly housed in Britain. Homelessness among families has increased by 17% since 1997. Homeless children miss an average of a quarter of their schooling. We are the fourth richest country in the world, and yet millions of people in Britain wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded or dangerous. Adam Sampson, Director of Housing and Homelessness at Shelter recently stressed the current crisis situation: "Those who argue that we should reduce the level of housing growth need to recognise the scale of the current crisis in affordability and supply." A commitment to improving housing standards in Britain runs throughout Countryside Properties with Chairman, Alan Cherry CBE DL stating: "Cities, towns and neighbourhoods should be developed in a way that generates wealth for communities and investors alike, prioritises social equity, promotes cultural achievement and safeguards the natural environment." Here are some examples of what your money could help provide: - £15 provides a 'starting at school pack' enabling children who have been homeless to settle into a new school without the stigma of not having what they need. - £150 pays for drop in facilities for homeless families where children can play safely and parents can get support and advice. - £1,200 pays for a Shelter solicitor to take a complex case right through from initial crisis to an injunction hearing. Thank you in advance for your generous support! Kind regards, Ian Crockford, Director, Major Projects, London and Thames Gateway Terry Tedder, Associate Land Director, London and Thames Gateway Claire Walsh, Graduate Management Trainee The Countryside Properties New York Team! IMPORTANT NOTE: We feel very fortunate to have been selected to run this highly regarded Marathon representing Shelter. We would like you to know that we are covering all costs and ALL SPONSORSHIP RECEIVED WILL GO DIRECTLY TO SHELTER.
