Mongolia Charity Rally
About the charity : Cambridge Mongolian Disaster Appeal (CAMDA) Cambridge Mongolian Disaster Appeal (CAMDA)
CAMDA provides grass-roots aid to poorer nomadic herding communities that lost millions of herd animals to wintry extremes. It also targets three essential resources: hay-making, reliable wells, healthy horses. Its aid helps prevent families on the verge of poverty giving up herding for the almost certain poverty of alien city life.
Charity Registration No 1086778

Personal message:

We are Paul and Kev aka Team First Gear

On the 5th of July 2008 we will start our rally in London, heading off around the world with the intention of eventually reaching the finish line in Ulaan Bataar.

(For more information on our progress, check out our blog at http://www.teamfirstgear.co.uk)

The challenge

To travel 10,000 miles around the earth, from London to Mongolia via a multitude of countries, deserts and mountain ranges, some of which you may never have heard of!

We will be on our own with no support team, backup, or emergency services of any kind! We will also be severely lacking in GPS or hi-tech navigational equipment. In fact, the only thing we have to keep us on track is Kev’s uncanny ability to navigate by way of the moon, the stars, and the smell of fried chicken! It should take us 3 to 4 weeks to get to , but judging by the state of Valerie (our humble and trusted steed), who knows when we will end up there!

Visit http://www.mongoliarally.com for more information on the event.

Why oh why are we doing this?

Our aim is to raise money for a number of charities, mainly CAMDA (Cambridge Mongolian Disaster Appeal) and the CDPF (Children’s Development and Protection Fund). All money raised through our fundraising efforts will go directly to CAMDA, whilst the CDPF will take delivery of Valerie upon our arrival in Ulaan Bataar where she will either be used by the projects operating there, or be sold at auction with the sale proceeds going directly to the charity.

Please visit http://www.camda.org.uk/ for further information on CAMDA.

We hope that you will be generous with your donations, even if you can only afford £1, this will really help us reach our target which we would love to meet, but hopefully exceed. In addition to this, please remember that at the end of the rally we will sign the car over to the CDPF.

It goes without saying that we also plan on having a great time on this amazing adventure whilst helping a worthwhile cause.

The Car

A 1990 Suzuki Vitara Soft-Top-turned-Pickup Truck named Valerie! She’s a beast that’s had a suspension lift thanks to one of our sponsors, a flat bed made up thanks to Kev’s chippie skills, and only runs now thanks to Paul’s magic fingers! Like most old ladies she’s a little temperamental, slow and smells slightly musty, but we love her anyway!

Thank you...

...for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online. Any donation is much appreciated and welcomed.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us - CAMDA will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
