Theirworld is a global children's charity committed to ending the global education crisis and unleashing the potential of the next generation. Our mission is to ensure that every child has the best start in life, a safe place to learn, and skills for the future. Every child deserves an education.

Story

On 31st May 2009, Paul, Ali, Caroline and myself are running the relay for the Edinburgh Marathon. After raising an amazing £3500 between two teams last year for the PIGGYBANKKIDS, we have decided to run for this charity again, and of course aim to raise even more this year. My wife Fran is running with her own team.

One of the projects of the PIGGYBANKKIDS is the Jennifer Brown Research Fund. This supports groundbreaking research to save newborn lives and solve pregnancy problems.

One of the areas of research is looking at a common, but serious, complication of pregnancy - PRE-ECLAMPSIA. This condition affects a significant number of pregnancies and can result in serious complications. The charity has one of its research labs here in Edinburgh, situated at the New Royal Infirmary.

My wife Fran and I have unfortunately been affected by preeclampsia in both our pregnancies. Our first son, Ryan, was born at 26+5 when I developed the condition very suddenly and severely. Amazingly, he is a healthy 4 year old today, with no lasting effects. Sadly, we weren't as lucky with our 2nd son Noah. He was tragically stillborn due to severe early onset preeclampsia on 11 March 2008.  We miss him everyday.

We hope by raising as much money as possible, that we can help prevent other parents going through the same heartache of losing a much wanted and loved child.

We appreciate any amounts donated, large or small.

Thank you in advance

Jeroen
